Cornwall BeachIt’s 9.30, on an early summer morning and I’m sitting on an almost deserted beach in Cornwall, here in the UK. My Wife, Debbie and I decided to take a few days away from the rat-race to relax. And honestly, it was an excellent idea.

Sometimes you just need to slow down and experience life in all its glory. Get away from the everyday pressures and commitments and take the time to ‘just be’.

Sitting here, thinking about how excellent this week has been, got me thinking about excellence in general. How do we become excellent ourselves?

Always trying to be excellent is one of my core values. For me, it’s about always trying to do the right thing. Treating others in the way I’d like to be treated by them and giving everyone the benefit of the doubt.

One of my highest beliefs is that people are generally good. They’re trying to do the best they can, with what they have, just like the rest of us.

Always trying to be excellent is a sure way to become successful. Even if you ultimately fail, you’ll know you did your best and no one can ask for more.

Throughout your life, you’ll undoubtedly come up against difficulties and issues that threaten your hopes and dreams. So, I thought I’d introduce to you a thought provoking quote from Aristotle. Although this insight doesn’t quite ‘roll off the tongue’, it’s definitely worth remembering.

“Excellence is an art, won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather, we have those things because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.
Aristotle.

The Excellent Kindness TreeSo remember, no matter how big your problems might become, or how tempted you are to stop trying, if you continue to do what’s right every day, you WILL be excellent 🙂

Always try to be the best version of yourself.

I’d love to hear about how you try to be excellent every day. How do you define excellence in your life? Let me know your views in the comments, or on social media.

Steve
