Viktor Frankl was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist, and a Holocaust survivor, of Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, Kaufering and Türkheim.
In 1942, he was captured by the Nazis and sent to various concentration camps over the next three years. Viktor’s father Gabriel died in the Terezin concentration camp (Theresienstadt) in 1942. His mother and brother, Walter, were both killed in Auschwitz. And his sister, Stella, escaped to Australia.
While almost everyone around him was giving up and dying, he decided to find a purpose in life to feel positive about, and then immersed himself in imagining that outcome.
This book.’man’s search for Meaning’, is his journey through that time. Frankl believed that ‘meaning’ was the key to good mental health and human flourishing.
He wrote the book in 9 days and in the following years, it’s been translated into 24 languages, been reprinted over 73 times and sold over 10 Million copies.
