How an informal chat becomes a post idea

Hey there! I hope you’re having a great week?

I was having a socially-distanced chat with a friend of mine recently,  and somehow, we got to talking about self-esteem. Now, self-esteem was my biggest issue in the early days. It’s something that still comes up in my mind today, to be honest.

Now, if you’ve been hanging around for a bit, you’ll know that my self-esteem used to be crap!

Over the years, I’ve made huge changes to my self belief. And there are loads of posts on this site to help you improve yours. But, one of the things that really helped, was the thoughts of many fabulous writers. I’d like to pass-on a few of their truths here today, hopefully they’ll be useful to you too.

The Quotes to help with self-esteem

The first one, is from a man who’s best known as an American pediatrician whose book ‘Baby and Child Care’ is one of the best-sellers of all time. But also, Benjamin Spock was the first pediatrician to study psychoanalysis to try to understand  family dynamics, so he knows the mind!

One of my favorite quotes from him is…

Trust Yourself

‘Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do.’ – Benjamin Spock

Many people (especially us Brits!), love to put ourselves down. We often think we’re less important than we really are and that makes building self-esteem more difficult.

If you’re struggling to see your benefits, have a read of this post and work your way through the ideas.

Next is a quote from American writer, activist, and feminist, Rita Mae Brown. She had a view on ‘people pleasing’….

Everyone likes you, except yourself

‘I think the reward for conformity is that everyone likes you, but yourself.’ ~ Rita Mae Brown

I’m sure you’re guilty of making decisions based on what others want, but maybe it’s time to start doing what’s good for you instead?

And, finally. This last quote is from George Eliot (The male Pen name of Mary Anne Evans)…..

It's never too late

‘It is never too late to be what you might have been.’ ~ George Eliot

Building your self-esteem is a journey, not a ‘quick fix’. As I mentioned in a previous post, The past has gone and you don’t know what’ll happen in the future. You only have this moment. So, you may as well use it to improve the way you feel.  😉

For me, quotes from people who’ve made a success of their lives were always inspiring. In fact, I’d often make them into desktop wallpaper images and have them randomly show on my computer.  It’s a great idea to have things like this around. It certainly made a big difference to me personally.

I’m a believer that if something has been done by someone else, with the right commitment and attitude, it’s possible for me to do it too. I hope you come to the same conclusion and I hope these quotes have been a step to helping you see that?

Do you have any favorite quotes that inspire you? If you do, please write them in the comments, I’d love to see them.

Remember, you can always drop me an email if you’ve got any questions, or if you just want a chat.

Until next time, Be Brave!

Steve
